A local woman has been arrested for stealing food from a supermarket on Rua de Brás da Rosa, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said at a press conference yesterday.

The suspect in her fifties is surnamed Chan. She told the police that she’s jobless.

According to Cheong, on Sunday evening the police received a report from the supermarket saying that Chan placed vegetables, fruit, meat and other items into her shopping bag, but at the checkout counter she only paid for a box of cornstarch. Police officers who arrived at the scene arrested Chan. They recovered goods worth 380 patacas.

Under questioning, Chan admitted to stealing the goods.

Chan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to Cheong.
