A local man has been arrested for embezzling Central Processing Units (CPU) worth HK$4.7 million from a Hong Kong man, Judiciary Police spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a regular press conference yesterday,
The 38-year-old male suspect is surnamed Chio who is a worker.
According to Chan, the victim purchased a batch of computer CPUs worth HK$4.7 million in Hong Kong, and was introduced to Chio by a friend. Chio claimed to have a way to transport the CPUs to the mainland in a week for a low price. The victim reached a deal with Chio and transferred the CPUs to him last month.
However, Chan noted, after two weeks the victim’s warehouse in the mainland had still not received the CPUs from Chio. The victim questioned Chio, who gave the victim 500,000 yuan as “compensation” but refused to disclose the whereabouts of the CPUs leading the victim to report the case to the police.
The victim encountered Chio on Saturday in the city centre and immediately notified the police, who arrived at the scene and eventually took the suspect to a police station for questioning. Chio denied the accusation and refused to cooperate.
Chio has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an abuse-of-trust charge, according to Chan.
