The 34th Macao Arts Festival kicked off on Friday with an opening ceremony at the Macao Cultural Centre (CCM), while “The Grand Opening: Jungle Book reimagined”, which was produced by British dancer and choreographer Akram Khan and his team, was also staged, the Cultural Affairs Bureau said in a statement released on the same day.

This year’s festival, the statement noted, comprises 19 programmes ranging from theatre to visual arts and is themed “Wondrous Encounters”.

The statement added that various performances will be staged on the days around Mother’s Day, which is this Sunday. Among them are Frankenstein/Creatures presented by local troupe “Space for Acting” with Japan-based Theatre Moments at Dom Pedro V Theatre; the Patuá theatre performance “A Star is Arriving”; and “Under the Pagoda Tree” by the Zhen Hua Sing Cantonese Opera Association featuring performer Chu Chan Wa and a number of local actors, according to the statement. They will be presented on Saturday and Sunday, with details available on www.icm.gov.mo/fam.

The Little Book by Baj Theatre from Poland will also be presented in nine sessions from Friday through Sunday, and is suitable for those aged between six months and three years, the statement said.
