Macau recorded 605,000 visitor arrivals during the mainland’s five-day Labour Day Golden Week holiday, which started on Wednesday last week and ended on Sunday, or a daily average of about 121,000, an increase of 23.2 percent from last year’s corresponding period, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement last night.

Last year’s Labour Day Golden Week holiday also lasted five days, from April 29 through May 3, 2023.

Last night’s statement also said that Friday recorded the highest single-day number of visitor arrivals during this year’s Labour Day holiday period, at about 154,000.

According to the statement, the about 605,000 visitor arrivals recorded during this year’s Labour Day holiday comprised around 487,000 from the mainland, 78,000 from Hong Kong, 8,000 from China’s Taiwan region, and 32,000 foreign visitors.

Foreigners accounted for about 5.3 percent of Macau’s visitor arrivals during the five-day holiday.

Meanwhile, the statement also said that the average occupancy rate of hotel guestrooms reached 89.2 percent during this year’s Labour Day holiday period, an increase of 4.5 percentage points from last year’s corresponding period.

The occupancy rate stood at 95.1 percent on Thursday, the highest during the five-day period, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Public Security Police (PSP) announced in a statement last night that they recorded around 2.989 million entries and exits at the city’s nine border checkpoints during this year’s five-day Labour Day Golden Week holiday, or a daily average of about 598,000, an increase of 12.7 percent from last year’s corresponding period.

In addition, last night’s PSP statement also said that the police recorded 11 violations by cabbies during this year’s Labour Day holiday period, during which they also detected six cases of passenger transport services provided by unlicensed taxis.
