Transport Bureau (DSAT) Director Lam Hin San said yesterday that the charges for vehicle removal and the government’s other vehicle-related fees have been increased in an attempt to help cover the cost of the services which the bureau provides.
Lam made the remarks during a hastily arranged press conference at Government Headquarters about a new list of vehicle-related charges which was signed by Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On last month and took effect on New Year’s Day.
Lam pointed out that the charges had not been adjusted for 19 years, therefore causing the bureau a “huge deficit” in providing vehicle-related services such as vehicle inspections and the removal of illegally parked vehicles.
