A local young man has fallen victim to an online part-time job scam, losing 13,000 patacas in the process, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The Judiciary Police, according to Lou, received the victim’s report about his loss of 13,000 patacas on Wednesday afternoon, saying that on Tuesday night he had read a post on a social media group offering a part-time employment opportunity. Afterwards, he contacted the post’s sharer and provided his phone number to open an online account and clicked on the specified link, following the sharer’s instructions, to like and follow the respective website in order to earn 450 patacas. The victim added that on Tuesday night he also provided his Mpay and bank account details so that he could withdraw the 450 patacas. However, the next morning he discovered that 13,000 patacas in his bank account had been withdrawn through five transfers.
