Two prostitutes got into a brawl at a hotel guestroom in Cotai on Thursday over a “commission” row, suffering, respectively, head and hand injuries, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson announced on Friday.

According to Friday’s regular press conference, the incident happened on Thursday night in a hotel guestroom in Cotai, where PSP officers responding to a report of an assault there found that the incident involved procuring so the officers took the two women and a male at the scene to a police station for questioning.

The spokesperson noted that under questioning, one of the women, surnamed Wang, told the police that she got to know the other mainland woman, surnamed Bao, through a mainland man in October last year, who then arranged for her to work as a prostitute in Macau, adding that based on the agreement with Bao, the “fee” for each of her sex services ranged between HK$5,000 and HK$13,000, while Bao would receive between HK$1,000 and HK$13,000 as a “commission” from her. Both women are aged 30.

Wang said that under Bao’s arrangement, she engaged in prostitution in Macau on three occasions between October last year and May this year, earning HK$600,000 in seven months, of which HK$250,000 was taken by Bao as her “commission”.

According to the spokesperson, Wang came to Macau again on Wednesday, when she refused to work with Bao again as she felt that her earnings were not fairly shared between them, while Bao threatened to “blacklist” Wang and blocked her contacts, and as a result, Wang could not find any clients.

Finally realising that Bao was also engaged in prostitution, Wang asked a male friend surnamed Guo to pretend to be Bao’s client so that she could meet her to negotiate the “commission” with her in Guo’s guestroom, the spokesperson said, adding that after Bao arrived at the room, Guo left to wait in the corridor, after a shouting match erupted between the two women which finally became physical, resulting in Wang being scratched on both hands, so she asked Guo to report the incident to the police.

Under questioning, Bao claimed to have received a phone call from a friend, asking her to meet a man in his guestroom and take him to gamble at a casino, adding that she was attacked by Wang and Guo in the room and was not allowed to leave, while Guo, who is in his thirties, told the police that he merely “lent” the room to the two women for a chat, during which he had been waiting in the corridor outside the room and only returned to it when the duo got into a fight, insisting that he was not aware of the duo’s jobs and the reason for their dispute.

The spokesperson noted that the mainland trio have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of causing bodily harm, while Bao faces procuring charges.

While prostitution is not illegal in Macau, tourists are not allowed to engage in gainful employment during their stay here. Living off the earnings of a prostitute is a crime.
