A man from the mainland has been arrested for cheating a woman out of 1,550 yuan (1,720 patacas) by selling her a counterfeit K-pop ticket, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Li is in his forties.
According to Lai, the victim encountered Li in January while walking around Cotai. Li sold her a ticket that was originally priced at 1,000 yuan for 1,550 yuan to attend a K-pop concert being held in Macau.
When the victim attempted to enter the concert, staff informed her that the ticket was fake and denied her entry. Believing she had been scammed, she reported the case to the police.
Li was arrested after re-entering Macau through the Barrier Gate checkpoint on Saturday. He admitted to selling the ticket to the victim but claimed he did not know the ticket was bogus.
Li has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a fraud charge, according to Lai.
