Xia Baolong, who heads both the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO), visited several local associations and a school yesterday, the third day of his visit to Macau, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS).

Xia arrived in Macau on Monday for a seven-day "investigation and research" tour.

Yesterday, Xia’s first stop was in the morning at the headquarters of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (commonly known as Gung Luen, its Chinese name). He was accompanied by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong. There, Gung Luen representatives briefed Xia on the various services offered to its members. Xia also exchanged views with the federation's representatives about the current employment and labour situation in Macau.

Xia and his delegation later visited the Escola dos Moradores de Macau ("Macau Residents' School") under the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (commonly known as Kai Fong, its Cantonese name), accompanied by the chief executive and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U. While at the school, Xia interacted with students, watched their participation in extracurricular activities, and exchanged opinions with association and school representatives on Macau's education-management and education services.

In the afternoon, Xia went on to visit several other associations, accompanied by Ho and Ao Ieong. At the headquarters of the Chinese Educators’ Association of Macau, Xia visited its archives room and learned about the history of the local education sector’s development, talking with retired teachers. Xia also exchanged views with representatives from the association.

While at the Women's General Association of Macau (commonly known as Fu Luen, its Cantonese name) service complex, Xia learned about the services provided by the association and toured its family service centre, as well as its education and training centre. Xia interacted with instructors and students there. He also expressed views with representatives of the association, expressing interest in issues concerning women's welfare and family support work.

The last stop yesterday for Xia was at the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau (commonly known as Gwai Kiu, its Cantonese name) to learn about the history of the association and the evolution of overseas Chinese-related matters. Xia and representatives of the association exchanged views on issues such as continuing to make good use of the clout of the overseas Chinese community, further integrating internal and external affairs through the vast overseas Chinese network, enhancing people-to-people connections, and helping Macau continue to achieve positive results in terms of its development.

Xia will continue his fact-finding tour today.
