Integrated resort (IR) operator MGM said in a statement yesterday that enrolment for the “MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class” will start next Thursday and last through June 2.
Marking its 10th consecutive year, the seven-week training programme invites children in Macau to use their summer break to equip themselves with lion dance training to strengthen their physical fitness, team spirit and cultural confidence.
The statement said that the programme is open for those aged five to eight, with participants able to learn the history of the lion dance, basic movements, and how to use various props and musical instruments related to the dance, according to the statement, with those completing it able to showcase their talents during a graduation ceremony.
Those demonstrating an outstanding performance will be able to enrol in the “MGM Lion Dance Training Programme”, which provides advanced training to enhance their lion dance techniques, as well as prepares them for future competitions and professional opportunities in the field.
Over 540 young lion dancers have been trained since the programme debuted in 2015, the statement said.
The statement noted that members of the public can fill in the application form on MGM’s website and submit a copy of their valid ID card and a medical examination report. A lucky draw will be held if participants exceed the enrolment quota, with successful applicants to be notified via email on June 6.
