A local unemployed man was arrested for stealing 100 yuan from a car the doors of which were unlocked, according to a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson during a regular press conference on Friday.

The male suspect surnamed Chan is in his twenties, according to the spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that police officers received a report of a theft case in a car park near the Barrier Gate at 3 a.m. on Thursday, where a car owner caught a person in his car stealing 100 yuan from the handbag left inside.

Under questioning, Chan admitted to stealing the cash. He told the police that he committed the crime out of greed after finding the car’s door unlocked.

The police have transferred Chan to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge.

A mainland man has been arrested for stealing a mobile phone he found in a taxi, a PSP spokesperson said during a regular press conference on Friday.

According to the spokesperson, police officers received a report from a tourist who had left his or her mobile phone worth about 13,000 patacas in a taxi.

The spokesperson did not reveal the tourist’s age and gender.

After scrutinising their citywide CCTV camera system, the police identified a man in his thirties as the suspect who had stolen the phone and intercepted him last Monday at the Barrier Gate checkpoint, according to the spokesperson.

Under questioning, the suspect admitted to finding the phone in a taxi and taking it to his flat in the mainland.

The suspect has been transferred to the MP, facing a theft-by-finding charge, the spokesperson said.
