An exhibition entitled “Self-Development” is being held at the Creative Macau gallery in Nape, presenting the work of Macau fashion designer Ana Cardoso.
On until June 8, the exhibition features Cardoso’s works created through mixed media, wood and fabric, along with dresses. In a recent statement provided by the gallery, Cardoso said that each of the art works on display represent various facets of herself.
Cardoso, the statement said, started painting at the age of 12 and after a few years went on to paint under the guidance of local painters Mio Pang Fei and Un Chi Iam. She started a modelling career in 1998, but also continued to pursue her passion for art and fashion.
The fashion designer, who has her own brand, has worked in fashion design and production for various brands and magazines. She is also an art and design professor at the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre and at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), according to the statement. She has also taught visual arts at the Macau Portuguese School (EPM)
In creating her works, the statement said, Cardoso always attempts to use Macau as a starting point for her work, aiming to develop and internationalise art in Macau.
The free-admission gallery is located on the ground floor of the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM). One can visit it from Mondays to Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays. For more details, visit www.creativemacau.org.mo
