Local boxer Cheong Lap Cheong won his fight against South Korean boxer Han Sol Lee with a score of 99-91, 99-90, 100-89 in Xiamen, not only winning the vacant WBC (World Boxing Council) Far East Super Flyweight belt, but also taking his ranking to 20th in the world in his division.

Cheong, 27 now has a fight record of 11 wins-0 losses-0 knock outs and was quite emotional after the win as it was a very difficult fight that went the whole 10 rounds.

The Post spoke to Cheong on Sunday evening through a social media link about his victory. “I feel so tired today, and my face got a little hurt and still feels painful, but I’m so excited to gain the victory of my fight last night [Saturday]”.

When asked what his plans were when he got home as he has been away for about three months at two training camps in Shaanxi and Kunming, Cheong said, “As I have been away from home for a while, I would like to have a good rest first”.

Cheong also said, “I’m the world top 20 as in the WBC ranking. My fight last night was against the Korean No.1 and so it was very hard,” adding: “I listened to my coach about the fight strategy. And I was more calm than my previous fight. I did not get over-emotional during the fight”.

In his previous fight against the mainland’s Yang Chengcheng at Cheong’s home gym Macao Boxing House Gym on August 12, 2023, he lost his temper and although he won became over-emotional which is not a good thing to do during a fight.

Cheong said, “I eventually won. I have to thank my coaching team and all the friends who supported us for this fight”.
