The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) announced yesterday that local students can apply for admission to 18 mainland universities and colleges on the basis of their results in the Joint Admission Examination for Four Higher Education Institutions in Macau taken in the 2023/2024 academic year.

Yesterday’s DSEDJ statement said that students holding a valid Macau Resident Identity Card (BIR) and a Home Return Permit – a card for Macau residents who are Chinese nationals to travel to and from the mainland – may submit their joint entrance examination results and other specified documents to the tertiary education institutions where they wish to study during the enrolment period from this month through next month, adding that the respective universities and colleges will set their own time and mode of application, and will also arrange corresponding subject examinations or interviews according to the professional programmes that the enrolment candidates are applying for. Admission results are expected to be announced in mid to late July, the statement noted.

With the approval of the Ministry of Education (MOE), according to the bureau, some mainland universities and colleges had adopted the results of the Joint Admission Examination for Four Higher Education Institutions in Macau as a pilot scheme for admitting Macau students from 2018 onwards. Each university or college will set its own minimum admission score or interview requirements based on the joint admission examination results, the bureau noted.

The number of the mainland’s colleges and universities permitted to enrol students from Macau this year has increased to 18, with the addition of Guangdong’s South China Agricultural University (SCAU).

The 18 colleges and universities include Tianjin’s Nankai University, Shanghai’s Fudan University, Fujian’s Xiamen University, Chinese University of China and Fuzhou University, as well as Guangdong’s Sun Yat-sen University, Jinan University, South China Normal University, Guangzhou University, China University of Technology and South China Agricultural University, among others in Hubei, Hunan, Shaanxi and Zhejiang.
