Pre-sale buyers of Pearl Horizon flats are planning to run in this year’s direct legislative election to protect their interests, Pearl Horizon Condominium Owners United Association President Kou Meng Pok said yesterday.

The Pearl Horizon residential project has been mothballed since the government decided in late 2015 to axe the ill-fated project’s temporary land concession that had expired. The government has repeatedly said that the issue must be solved in strict adherence with the Land Law. The developer, Hong Kong-based Polytec, is suing the government over the matter.

A pre-sale buyer surnamed Fong posted a status update on the buyers’ Facebook group on Thursday, saying that even though some “conscientious” lawmakers had spoken up for the pre-sale buyers in the legislature, she did not think it was effective enough. She suggested Kou lead some of the buyers to run in the election to fight for the interests of all the buyers.
