Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) announced in a statement yesterday that the sale of about 3,300 car parking spaces in the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) residential estate on Zhuhai’s Hengqin island will start today.

MUR said last year that the MNN neighbourhood would have around 4,000 car parking spaces, but the company said last month that the neighbourhood will have about 3,300 car parking spaces, on the ground floor and in the basement level, with “ownership rights” for sale.

According to yesterday’s MUR statement, a standard-sized parking space costs 288,000 yuan, while a tandem parking space, i.e., an area assigned to an owner with two parking spaces together, costs 488,000 yuan.

The parking spaces are only to be sold to MNN homeowners.

The statement said that the buyer for a parking space is required to pay a deposit of 30,000 yuan, after which he or she will have to complete all necessary formalities for the purchase within 30 days.

The MNN project, which got off the ground in 2021, was developed by MUR, which is owned by the Macau government. MNN home sales started on November 28 last year after the project had been fully completed.

MNN two-bedroom flats are being sold for between 2.41 million and 2.63 million yuan, while three-bedroom flats are being sold for between 3.53 million and 3.71 million yuan.

Starting from Monday last week, all Macau residents aged 18 or over are eligible to buy MNN flats – regardless of whether they own any residential properties in Zhuhai or Macau.

Before Monday last week, only Macau residents aged at least 18 who did not own any residential property in Zhuhai nor owned more than one residential unit in Macau were eligible to buy an MNN flat.

Yesterday’s statement also noted that MNN homeowners are eligible to apply for a permit allowing their Macau cars to travel within Hengqin, colloquially known as a single licence plate.
