Integrated resort (IR) operator Melco Resorts & Entertainment held the “Macao Orchestra Meet the Musicians” event at Studio City on May 14, which invited members of the public to meet the orchestra’s key musicians, the company said in a recent statement.
The outreach event followed Melco’s Violin Prodigy Christian Li concert and subsequent special performance and meet-up event last month.
The statement noted that the event was joined by students, professors, teachers and beneficiaries from the University of Macau (UM); Macao Polytechnic University (MPU); Macao Conservatory; St. Pius X and the Music Academy; and the Macau Autism Association, adding that many were “budding musicians”, along with Melco volunteers and their children.
Participants met Assistant Conductor Tony Cheng-Te Yeh, Principal Second Violin Li Na, Second Violin Zhou Chen, Principal Viola Xiao Fan and Principal Cello Vincent Lu Jia, with the musicians discussing their inspiration, experiences and expertise with the audience, according to the statement.
Melco Board Director Clarence Chung Yuk Man was quoted by the statement as saying: “We are glad to host this event as part of our efforts to contribute to Macau’s status of becoming an international hub for performing arts, while continuing our support for the development of young local talent in the arts for the city’s sustainable growth.”
Macau Autism Association’s Life Honorary President and Consultant Chan Sio Man was quoted as saying: “The youth in the audience were really focused and enjoyed the wonderful performances of the masters. We hope that these young people will continue developing in their musical journeys”.
