The Macau ASEAN International Chamber of Commerce (MAICC) said in a statement this week that consuls-general from Brunei, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand attended its 2023 general meeting and “network dinner” at the Regency Art Hotel on Tuesday.

ASEAN is the acronym for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

According to the statement, Kelvin Tan Hai Ching was elected chairperson of the chamber’s 4th Board of Directors and Supervisors.

The statement expressed the chamber’s gratitude to various local government entities, such as the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), as well as the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the MSAR for their cooperation and assistance in its wide range of activities.

ASEAN, set up in 1967, now has 10 member states. Timor-Leste (East Timor) is slated to join the bloc soon. Timor-Leste is a member of Forum Macao. Relations between ASEAN, which has a total population of over 600 million, and the PRC, are characterised by their joint commitment to ensuring peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.
