The six-day Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group kicks off at Galaxy Arena in Cotai today, with the Thailand-Dominican Republic opening match starting at 4 p.m., followed by a match between Brazil and Japan at 7:30 p.m.

The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB)-sanctioned event is co-organised by the Sports Bureau (ID), Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and the ‘Volleyball Association of Macao, China’.

A press conference was held at the Galaxy International Convention Centre (GICC) yesterday, which was attended by the coaches and captains of the eight participating teams.

GEG Director Philip Cheng Yee Sing was quoted in a statement provided by the bureau yesterday as saying that the company is “leveraging on the synergies of sporting events to provide diverse support across multiple aspects, whilst organising a series of activities to extend the tournament’s excitement to the community, so as to further promote the unique charm of Macau’s ‘tourism + sports’ and facilitate its development as a ‘City of Sports.’”

Moreover, Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun told reporters on the sidelines of yesterday’s event that he was optimistic about the competition’s ticket sales, particularly for China’s matches. He noted that the number of tickets sold has reached over 90 percent for some of the games, while a few were still available for purchase on site.

China will play against the Netherlands tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., with more details on the competition and its schedule available on  www.macaovnl.com or by visiting the bureau’s website on www.sport.gov.mo.
