China’s players yesterday beat The Netherlands 3-1 during the Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group at the Galaxy Arena in Cotai, the Sports Bureau (ID) said in a statement last night.
Yesterday marked the second day of the six-day event.
The statement noted that the Netherlands took an early lead, winning the first set 25-21. China then strengthened its blocking, while the statement added that “outstanding plays” by Gong Xiangyu and Wang Yuanyuan helped the team win the second set 23-25. China edged the third set 23-25, with Li Yingying, Wu Mengjie and Yuan Xinyue starring on both offense and defence, according to the statement.
The statement said that in the fourth set, Elles Dambrink and Jolien Knollema made attacking plays, but China withstood the pressure due to Wu and captain Yuan’s performances, winning the set 21-25.
China will play against Japan next tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Italy played France yesterday afternoon prior to the China vs. Netherlands match, with Italy securing a straight set win (25-15, 25-14 and 25-14), according to the statement.
On Tuesday, the first day of matches, Thailand beat the Dominican Republic 3-1, while Brazil defeated Japan 3-2.
