A man with a history of sexual offences in the mainland has been arrested in Dongguan for deceiving a local high-school student into sending a nude photo of her to him, blackmailing her and successfully demanding sex, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Kim Fong said during a special press conference yesterday.
Cheong did not reveal the age of the student.
The 31-year-old suspect surnamed Chen told the police that he’s jobless. Dongguan is one of the nine cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) in Guangdong province.
According to Cheong, Chen virtually met the female victim on a gaming platform in March and later added her to his WeChat account. They became virtual friends and the victim even took a nude selfie and sent it to the suspect.
Later, Chen blackmailed the victim with the nude photo, demanding 8,000 yuan (8,890 patacas), threatening that otherwise he would release the photo. The suspect also used the photo as a means to engage in explicit conversations with the victim. Subsequently, the suspect claimed that the victim owed him money and demanded that she have sexual intercourse with a “male stranger” in a Zhuhai hotel as repayment.
It was later revealed that this “male stranger” was Chen himself.
From mid-April to May, the victim complied with the demands and engaged in sexual intercourse at a hotel on three occasions. Chen even stole her phone during one of their meetings.
Chen continued to demand money from the victim. However, when the victim used her phone to make a transfer, her parents discovered her predicament and, upon questioning, the victim revealed her quandary. Her parents and the victim together reported the case to the police on May 22.
The Judiciary Police notified the mainland authorities about the case, and Chen was apprehended on Wednesday in Dongguan. Cheong noted that the case was still under investigation at the time of the press conference.
