The Judiciary Police (PJ) have arrested a local man and two non-resident workers (NRWs) from the Philippines for their alleged involvement in drug deals, PJ spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a special press conference yesterday.
Lei said that upon receiving a tip-off about a man taking drugs, PJ officers identified a 31-year-old local male surnamed Capuyan and intercepted him on Tuesday in his working place where he was employed as a chef.
The police subsequently traced the source of the drugs purchased by Capuyan and apprehended later that day a 34-year-old Filipino man named Balajadia, who worked as a cleaner. Upon spotting the police, Balajadia hastily dropped a packet of drugs on the ground.
Lei noted that the police also apprehended a third suspect, a 44-year-old Filipino man named Jocson, who worked as a shelf filler for a shop in Patane on the same night. Following the three arrests, the police thoroughly searched Jocson’s flat, where they discovered six packets of drugs, along with electronic scales and packaging equipment. Additionally, they found 10,800 patacas in cash, which the police suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
During the operation, a total of 3.3 grams of ice were seized by the officers. The estimated street value of the drugs amounted to 10,000 patacas. Under questioning, Jocson refused to disclose the source of the drugs.
The trio were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, where they face a range of drug-related charges.
The two hooded drug suspects from the Philippines are escorted by police officers to a Judiciary Police (PJ) vehicle outside the PJ headquarters in Zape yesterday.
