Integrated resort (IR) operator SJM Resorts said in a Wednesday statement that it has launched multiple blood donation drives between February and this month in honour of World Blood Donor Day, which is next Friday, adding that the activity was aimed at motivating staff to give blood.

The statement noted that the initiative was held in collaboration with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) Macao Blood Transfusion Service and coordinated by SJM’s Staff Welfare Consultative Committee (SWCC). Moreover, in January, the integrated resort operator had arranged some of its staff members to visit the blood bank at the Macao Blood Transfusion Service, where they attended a seminar on a variety of topics surrounding blood donation, according to the statement.

The blood donation drives were launched at key properties Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) in Cotai, Grand Lisboa Macau and Jai Alai Oceanus, both of which are located in the peninsula. The drives took place at Jai Alai Oceanus in February and at Grand Lisboa in May, concluding at GLP on Monday and Tuesday, according to the statement.

The statement said that the initiative “saw strong participation” from staff, adding that a total of 297 volunteers registered for the campaign and 236 donated blood. SWCC Director and Chairman Angela Leong On Kei visited the donors and healthcare professionals at GLP to “express her deep appreciation for their commitment”.
