The 1st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival (MICAF) is slated to take place next month and in August, with the event featuring 45 performances and activities in over 1,000 sessions, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) on Friday.
Details of the festival and its raft of activities were unveiled during a press conference on Friday at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM).
According to the statement, the festival will feature programmes by international and local art groups. Among them are the Broadway musical “Annie the Musical”; “The Magical Lotus Lantern” presented by students from the School of Theatre of the Macao Conservatory; and the immersive closing performance “The First Musical for Children ever by the Palace Museum ‘Luduan’”, the statement said.
Luduan (甪端) is a legendary Chinese auspicious creature. According to Wikipedia, it has the head of a lion, the horn of a rhino, the body of a dragon, the paws of a bear, the scales of a fish, and the tail of an ox. It can travel 18,000 li (9,000 km) in a single day and speaks all world languages.
The statement added that the exhibition “Fantastic Art World from Centre Pompidou” presented by Centre Pompidou in Paris features educational functions and thematic workshops, with more details and ticketing to be announced in due course.
The statement said that other activities include two-day art camps at CCM; over 20 art workshops in a total of 60 sessions that cover music, theatre, painting and dance; and the Macao International Children’s Film Festival which comprises over 20 films in four sections.
Moreover, the “Music Camp – Master Class” in August will be held by Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields chamber orchestra from London.
The Children’s Fun Book House (Pop-up Store) will also be held during the weekends in July at the “‧ART Space” on CCM’s first floor, and in the evenings from August 23 to 25, the “MICAF Fun Day” Arts Carnival will take place at the Cultural Centre Plaza.
