A local woman has been cheated out of a total of 53,000 patacas by buying what turned out to be fake jadeite jewellery, which she bought through a live-streaming shop on WeChat, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to the victim’s report to the police, Chan said, she found a shop selling “Natural Burmese A-grade Jadeite” via live stream on WeChat in April when she purchased 10 jadeite jewellery pieces at a total price of 20,000 yuan and paid for them through a friend, adding that while waiting for the delivery of the goods, she placed another order in the same live stream, making 12 purchases of jadeite totalling 33,400 yuan.
Chan noted that the victim reported the case to the Judiciary Police at the end of last month after she sent the first batch of goods to a jade testing service, which certified it as fake jadeite. The victim told the police that the online shop never delivered the remaining 12 transactions of the goods.
Jadeite is the principal mineral making up the most valuable form of jade.
