The Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) and the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) jointly launched the “North District Fun and Taste” series of activities yesterday, linking up a number of new installations and consumer reward activities, in hopes of promoting the northern district.

DSEDT Acting Deputy Director Raphael Chan Chou Weng announced the opening of the event during a launching ceremony at the Waterfront Duet Leisure Area yesterday, with the attendance of Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Acting Director Cheng Wai Tong and representatives from the tourism sector.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Chan said that the bureau had earlier launched a floral-themed installation in the northern district and the “Weekend Consumer Rewards in the Northern District” promotional activity, coupled with the government’s Distinctive Shops Programme, which he hoped could create a place of “attracting foot traffic, enriching experience, taking photos and thus consuming”, in order to revitalise the northern district’s economy.

Meanwhile, the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau Northern District (AICZNM) will organise offline lucky draws at different locations in the district from tomorrow to July 28 every Saturday and Sunday, and consumers with receipts of purchases of at least 100 patacas at shops in the district, AICZNM President Wong Kin Chong said yesterday during the opening ceremony.

Cheng told the reporters on the sidelines of the event that the northern district has fewer tourism resources than other districts, but there are actually a lot of eateries in the district.

However, Cheng was quick to add that it is difficult to attract tourists by relying on food alone, so it is hoped that the setting up of the installations and the joint publicity with key opinion leaders (KOLs) will bring about a “synergistic effect”.

Cheng also said that there were many posts on social media platforms about taking photos at the installations, adding that the promotional video was also very popular, which he believed could provide a travel guide for tourists visiting Macau.

In addition, the floral-themed installation will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily for six months until the end of November, spanning the entire summer holiday season. For more details, members of the public can visit the event’s website at https://arraial-de-flores-na-zona-norte.com/
