The Pharmaceutical Supervision and Administration Bureau (ISAF) urged members of the public in a statement on Friday to refrain from consuming certain batches of an iron supplement, “Ferrum Hausmann Drops 50mg/ml 30ml”, manufactured by “Vifor SA” of Switzerland, as the dropper was found to be deformed with plastic particles falling out it in some batches of the product.

According to the statement, the bureau was informed by a pharmaceutical importer that six batches of the product, with batch numbers AAL56301, AAM03804, AAP27103, AAR88304, AAT62402 and NAA04302, have quality problems.

The iron supplement is a remedy used for the treatment of anaemia.

According to the importer, the affected batches had been supplied to neighbourhood pharmacies and polyclinics in Macau.

The bureau has notified the pharmacies to stop selling the products and instructed the importer to follow up on the recall.

Members of the public who have bought the affected batches of the remedy may seek advice from their attending doctors or pharmacists for disposal. Enquiries can be made to the ISAF on 8598 3233 during office hours.
