The International Cities of Gastronomy Fest Macao kicked off on Saturday at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, with the event, which features various highlights, on until June 23.
According to a Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) statement released on Saturday, the event gathers delegates from 29 UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy across six continents.
The festival’s main highlights are namely the “International Gastronomy Promenade”, which features 100 Asian food stalls; the “City of Gastronomy Showcase” that stages 60 sessions of culinary delights showcased by acclaimed chefs; and the “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao”, which features discussions on the “concerted development between the fields of gastronomy and wellness”.
A TDM report on Saturday noted that MGTO hopes that the event will be able to attract 100,000 “participations” and plans for the event to be held annually in June.
The statement added that MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said in her opening ceremony speech that the festival mirrors MGTO’s commitment to Macau’s positioning endorsed by the central authorities, to radiate the city’s strengths as an international platform.
Moreover, Secretary of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Denise Bax said in her video address that seven years after its designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, Macau has demonstrated how culture and creativity, especially gastronomy in all its forms, can contribute to building the sustainable cities of tomorrow.
Seating for around 700 is available at the event, alongside a game zone, performances and a seaside bar zone. Shuttle bus services to the festival are also provided, with more details on https://www.macaotourism.gov.mo/en/article/events/gastronomy-fest-2024.
