The Judiciary Police (PJ) have arrested two locals at the Macau checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) for smuggling heroin from Hong Kong, PJ spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said in a press conference yesterday.
The two suspects, both surnamed Ho, are aged 38 and 44. They work as a lighting technician and renovation worker respectively. Lei did not say whether they are related.
Upon having received intelligence that a local man was smuggling drugs from Hong Kong to Macau, the police launched an investigation and identified the Hos as suspects. Both were apprehended by PJ officers on Saturday as they were returning from Hong Kong to Macau, passing through Macau’s HZMB checkpoint. One of the suspects was found in possession of 14 bags of heroin, weighing 4.08 grams, with an estimated street value of 6,000 patacas.
Under questioning, the duo refused to cooperate. Lei added that both tested positive for drugs.
The Hos were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of taking and selling drugs.
