Macau recorded this year’s third imported case of dengue fever yesterday, the Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement last night.

According to the statement, the patient is a 30-year-old local housewife who lives in Tong Seng Building on Rua Nova à Guia, located near Hotel Royal and Vasco da Gama Garden.

The woman visited Thailand with her friends between June 1 and 4. After returning to Macau, the statement said, she came down with a fever and headache on Tuesday last week, after which she sought treatment at the private Kiang Wu Hospital.

The woman developed a rash on her torso and limbs on Saturday. As her symptoms persisted, the statement said, she sought treatment at the emergency department of the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre on Monday where she had her blood sample collected for a test. She was diagnosed with Grade III dengue fever yesterday, the statement said.

Last night’s statement said that the woman, who has not been hospitalised, was in a stable condition and that her fever had already gone.

According to the statement, the patient has told the Health Bureau that after coming down with the symptoms, she was just out and about near her home and had not visited any parks or other green areas.

The statement said that by yesterday none of the woman’s family members living her and her friends on the trip to Thailand had come down with dengue symptoms.

The statement underlined that the Macau Health Bureau has classified the woman’s case as an imported case of dengue fever after considering her travel history and the time of the onset of her symptoms, as well as its laboratory test results.

The Health Bureau has carried out measures to eradicate mosquitoes in the area around the patient’s home.

Macau reported seven imported cases of dengue fever last year.
