The Public Security Police (PSP) announced two theft cases during a regular press conference yesterday.

In the first case, PSP spokesman Wong Wai Chon identified the 40-year-old suspect as a man surnamed Jin, who told the police he’s jobless.

According to Wong, two taxi drivers reported to the police on Sunday that cash had been stolen from their taxis. They told the police separately that their taxis were parked in the underground carpark of Taipa Central Garden, and they had left the doors unlocked. A total of 700 patacas was stolen, Wong noted.

PSP officers identified Jin with the help of CCTV footage and apprehended him later that day near the Barrier Gate checkpoint.

Under questioning, Jin confessed to the theft and revealed that he had attempted to steal from cars parked at the Barrier Gate but to no avail. Wong further added that Jin is an overstayer, as his travel permit expired in February. He told the police that he gambled away all his money and resorted to theft in Macau.

In the second case, the suspect surnamed Bulaon is in her twenties. She is a non-resident worker (NRW) working as a domestic helper.

According to Wong, on Saturday an employee of a supermarket in San Kio district reported to the police that a woman attempted to shoplift food. CCTV footage showed Bulaon putting a dozen food items in her shopping bag, but only paid the cashier for two of them and then tried to leave.

Bulaon was arrested at the scene. Under questioning, she admitted to stealing the items.

The two suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing theft charges, according to Wong.
