MGM yesterday welcomed the nation’s three renowned artistic swimming teams for the three-day “MGM Artistic Swimming Elite Extravaganza & Macao Open Artistic Swimming Competition 2024”, which starts today, the integrated resort operator said in a statement yesterday.
The teams are the Beijing Artistic Swimming Team, the Jiangsu Artistic Swimming Team and the Sichuan Artistic Swimming Team, all of which will present “water ballet” performances. MGM hosted a welcome luncheon at MGM COTAI for the teams and presented them with souvenirs.
In his speech, MGM China Holdings Limited President and Executive Director Kenneth Feng Xiaofeng was quoted in the statement as saying that “artistic swimming perfectly merges the essence of sports and arts, aligning with MGM’s principle of uniting the world through arts. This mega event not only enriches the ‘tourism+’ experience in Macau, but also attracts more people to visit the city as a tourist destination. It is also intended to help elevate public enthusiasm for sports”.
Yesterday’s luncheon was also attended by guests such as Sports Bureau (ID) Athlete Training and Development Centre Director Debby Fu, Associação Geral de Natação de Macau (“Macau General Swimming Association”) President Lai Pak Leng, MGM management staff and guests from the local sports sector.
The statement added that MGM collaborated with the Associação Geral de Natação de Macau to incorporate the “Artistic Swimming Elite Extravaganza” into the established “Macao Open Artistic Swimming Competition”.
The statement said that this year’s open competition brings together 17 teams with nearly 200 young athletes from Beijing, Tianjin, Sichuan, Chongqing, Chinese Taipei, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macau.The line-up represents a “significant increase” of 40 percent in the number of teams from outside the Greater Bay Area (GBA) compared to last year, according to the statement.
Moreover, MGM will organise the “Artistic Swimming Master Class” for young athletes.
The performances will be held at the Aquatic Centre of the Olympic Sports Centre in Taipa.
