The opening ceremony was held for the 15th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) yesterday at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo.
The three-day event, which this year is themed “Green Innovative Digital Connectivity” and is its largest edition ever, kicked off on Wednesday and ends today. Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, Director of the Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau Zheng Xincong, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Liu Xianfa, and Vice Minister of Commerce Guo Tingting were among the officiating guests at yesterday morning’s opening ceremony.
In her speech, Guo pointed out: “Chinese companies have invested over US$350 billion in infrastructure construction, completed contracted projects in more than 200 countries and regions, with a turnover of US$2.4 trillion, building a large number of low-carbon, environmentally friendly, digitally intelligent and interconnected projects for the host countries that benefit people’s livelihoods, contributing China’s strength to international infrastructure cooperation”.
Guo also made four suggestions for strengthening international infrastructure cooperation in the future, which are to continue to improve connectivity to a new level; seize new opportunities for green development; promote new developments in industrial cooperation; and expand new space for innovation and development, according to a statement from the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) last night.
The 15th IIICF is co-organised by the China International Contractors Association and IPIM. According to the IPIM statement, the free-admission event has attracted over 3,500 industry professionals and more than 60 ministerial-level guests from over 70 countries and regions for in-depth exchanges on infrastructure innovations and other topics related to the forum’s theme.
This three-day event has over 200 themed and supplementary activities such as conferences, symposiums and roadshows, with today’s agenda featuring a number of keynote speeches and panel discussions, according to the IIICF website on http://www.iiicf.org/.
