The Macao Government Tourism Office’s (MGTO) “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao” concluded on Sunday, with the event attracting over 107,000 participants during its 10-day run at Fisherman’s Wharf, MGTO said in a statement yesterday.

The event was the largest international event of gastronomic culture that MGTO has organised over the years, the statement noted.

The statement said that the event’s “International Gastronomy Promenade”, which had seats for 700 and 168 performance sessions, had over 100 food booths featuring delicacies from five mainland Chinese Creative Cities of Gastronomy, three other Asian Creative Cities of gastronomy, and local booths.

Among the participants was a business from Shunde that came to Macau for the first time and ran a booth at the promenade, and it also got in touch with a local Chinese restaurant and indicated the possibility of being one of its future suppliers, the statement said. A business from Chaozhou also brought olive drinks that proved popular, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, over 60 culinary showcase sessions were held at the “City of Gastronomy Showcase”, with around 3,650 food samples distributed, the statement noted.

The statement added that the “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao” themed “Holistic Gastronomy: Eat well, live well” gathered delegates from 29 Creative Cities of Gastronomy around the world, seven mainland Chinese member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in other fields, and industry members for discussions and exchanges. Its opening ceremony had over 250 attendees.

Moreover, the Cities of Gastronomy and Chinese Creative Cities’ delegates explored different neighbourhoods and “gained a deeper understanding of Macau’s gastronomic culture and offerings in ‘tourism +’”, according to the statement. Chefs from the Cities of Gastronomy also visited local restaurants for culinary exchanges, while collaborative projects were also held with chefs from Macau’s six integrated resorts (IR).

Meanwhile, promotional efforts on MGTO’s various social media platforms resulted in 28.40 million hits, the statement said.
