The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that local giant panda twins Jian Jian (健健) and Kang Kang (康康) celebrated their eighth birthday on Wednesday, and the bureau presented each of the male twins an ice cake made with fresh fruit and vegetables.
The statement said that to celebrate Jian Jian and Kang Kang’s birthday, the bureau invited about 30 teachers and students from Escola Oficial de Seac Pai Van to the Giant Panda Pavilion in Seac Pai Van Park in Coloane, where teachers and students sang a birthday song to the twins.
Currently, there are four members of the Happy Family of giant pandas living in Macau, they are the twin brothers “Jian Jian” and “Kang Kang” and their parents “Kai Kai” (開開) and “Xin Xin” (心心), the statement said, adding that Kai Kai is 16 years old, and Xin Xin will turn 17 in July.
The statement said that the pandas’ nutrition management strategy is adjusted according to their age and activity needs, and the members of the “Happy Family” are in good physical and mental health.
Meanwhile, the caretakers have added high-fibre biscuits, vegetables and fruit to the family’s meal plan, and continuously monitor the physical condition of the pandas and use different methods to maintain their vitality and health.
