The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is holding an open call for local commissioned productions, with submissions open until September 8, according to a statement from the bureau yesterday.

The bureau aims to “promote the production of outstanding artistic works in Macau and foster the development of local performing arts” through the project, which is entitled “Commissioning Performing Arts Productions”, the statement noted.

The statement said that proposals for brand-new productions, adaptations of existing works and revivals of previously staged productions, including musicals, dramas, dance and children’s programmes, from local associations or Macau-registered companies or Macau ID holders, are accepted.

Up to six works are expected to be commissioned and are expected to premiere between 2025 and 2026, according to the statement.

The statement added that core creative team must “incorporate a creative collaboration with a non-local artiste from a different discipline to explore new ideas, novel artistic discourses and approaches”. Musicals can be granted production costs up to 900,000 patacas, while drama, dance and children’s programmes can be granted up to 650,000 patacas.

Moreover, the statement said that the bureau will also “facilitate the subsequent development of the programmes” after their premiere and help connect them with event organisers from other regions for resources for restaging.

The statement said that an information session for the project is set to be held July 9 at the bureau’s headquarters.

Those shortlisted in the first stage are slated to have an interview with the jury in October, according to the statement.

One can find the regulations and application forms on www.icm.gov.mo, or contact IC on 8399 6374 for enquiries.
