The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) strongly disapproves of and firmly opposes the US Department of State’s so-called 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report, in which Macau was placed in “Tier 3”.

In a statement earlier this week, the commissioner office said that with the central government’s strong support, the MSAR government has been actively carrying out prevention and cracking down on human trafficking, protecting victims, and participating in international cooperation.

The statement said that Macau’s crime level has remained at a very low level for a long time, and the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Macau residents and foreign nationals residing in Macau have been fully protected, which is widely praised by the international community.

The statement said that with the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland, the city is embracing the best period of its development. The US’s slandering and smearing are completely contrary to the facts and are in vain, the statement said.
