The government has launched a public tender for the construction of a high-rise sports complex in the Zone A land reclamation area, according to announcements published in the Official Gazette (BO) and on the website of the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) on Wednesday.
According to an announcement in the gazette, potential bidders are required to submit their quotations by July 31. The bureau will unseal the submitted bids the next day.
The winner will be required to complete the project within 975 working days.
The sports complex will be built on Plot A9, located on the northern part of Zone A.
The 1.38-square-kilometre Zone A is primarily being developed for public housing projects.
The Public Works Bureau, the public entity tasked with organising and overseeing public construction projects, published details of the sports complex project on Plot A9 on its website on Wednesday.
The website notes that the future sports complex on Plot A9 will be located near a high-rise building to be used for senior care homes on Plot A8.
The bureau launched a public tender in May for the project on Plot A8, for which 21 construction companies submitted their bids, which were unsealed by DSOP officials earlier this month. The A8 project is slated to get off the ground in the fourth quarter.
According to the DSOP website, the site where the future sports complex will be located covers about 1,930 square metres. The 44.5-metre-high building will have nine storeys plus a two-level underground carpark, with a gross floor area of about 12,500 square metres.
The A9 sports complex will have four sports pavilions, as well as a 25-metre swimming pool, six badminton courts, two basketball courts, and an area for table tennis, according to the website.
After the bureau unseals the submitted bids on August 1, it will then start assessing them in compliance with three criteria, namely the proposed construction cost accounting for 50 percent of the scores, the proposed construction period accounting for 30 percent, and the bidders’ respective construction experience and the quality of their previous construction projects accounting for 20 percent, according to Wednesday’s announcement in the gazette.
After the bureau completes its assessments, it will choose and commission the winning bidder.
Construction of a nine-storey building earmarked for a wet market and other municipal facilities in Zone A was completed in October last year. The wet market municipal complex, located on Plot B6, was the first building completed in Zone A.
In addition to wet-market facilities, senior care homes, and sports facilities, various other community facilities will be built in Zone A such as cultural facilities, schools, and a health centre, according to the government’s Zone A urban development plan, which took effect in March this year.
