The Macau Science Centre (MSC) has set up a science education base in Hengqin, planning to launch a programme to take local students to the Zhuhai Hengqin Binhai Wetland Park to learn about biodiversity and natural sciences, according to an MSC statement yesterday.
The launching ceremony of the science education base was held yesterday at the Zhuhai Hengqin Binhai Wetland Park, the statement said.
The MSC and the Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin signed yesterday a strategic cooperation agreement, with the first phase of the cooperation to include staff training, sharing of international science resources, introducing science features and launching museum-school programmes, the statement said.
MSC Curator Sio Hon Pan said that Macau is a small place with a lack of ecological diversity resources, and setting up a base in Hengqin would be conducive to the popularisation of green science, the statement said.
Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin Deputy Director Tam Wai Fong said she hoped that both sides could promote the sharing of regional science resources through strategic cooperation, the statement said.
Tam also said that Macau residents have been able to make reservations for activities in the Zhuhai Hengqin Binhai Wetland Park through the “Macao One Account” app since March, and so far 7,500 people have made reservations, the statement said.
More than 20 environmental protection promotion activities will be organised during the summer holidays, including nightlife observation and waste separation workshops, the statement said.
