Excerpts of winning essays written by youngsters who joined the “3rd Macao-wide English Essay Competition” are now on display at the Universal Gallery & Bookstore in Praça do Tap Seac.
The free-admission exhibition titled “Nature and Me” Sustainable Development Exhibition kicked off on Saturday and is on until July 19. It is an extension of the recently held English essay competition, for which the award ceremony was held in March.
According to a recent statement from the organisers, over 1,600 students from 47 schools took part in the contest, with a total of 61 entries winning prizes. The contest, which comprised categories from primary school to university, is the first and only English writing competition in Macau that focuses on the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Visitors to the exhibition will not only have a chance to read excerpts of the winning essays alongside pictures and displays, but also read the full versions online by scanning a QR code next to each excerpt. Those visiting the exhibition will also be able to learn about the SDGs, play an online game and view a sustainable development commitment tree, all aiming to enable one to “gain a diverse and interactive understanding of the youth’s support and commitment to sustainable development, as well as the essence of the SDGs”, according to the statement.
Two sessions of the “Achieving SDGs Locally and Globally” workshops, which will have Language Exchange & Culture Promotion Association President Un Wa Lok as its speaker, and a screening of the film “Chasing Coral” will also be held during the exhibition period, with more details and registration available on https://essaymacao.com/exhibition/.
The exhibition is organised by the Macau Professional Speaking Association, in conjunction with the Language Exchange & Cultural Promotion Association, the Society of Food & Environmental Health, and the Sustainable Development Association. It is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
