The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that the Macao Chinese Orchestra’s 2023-24 season closing concert “Southland · Four Seasons” is set to take place on July 28 at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium.
According to the statement, the concert will be held under the baton of young conductor and 2016 Bucharest Music Institute (BMI) International Conducting Competition winner Chang Yu-An, who has also served as a guest conductor in different places across Asia, Europe and the US.
The statement noted that the young conductor from Taiwan will lead the orchestra and other performers in the Bangdi Concerto “Cinnamon Twig Decoction” by Malaysian composer Simon Kong Su Leong and in the Sanxian Concerto “Aleppo” by Singaporean composer Wang Chenwei.
“Cinnamon Twig Decoction” and “Aleppo” will be presented by bangdi performer Lai Yi-Chun and sanxian performer Tsai Yu-Tung respectively.
Bangdi, according to Wikipedia, is among the varieties of dizi, a Chinese transverse flute. Meanwhile, sanxian is a three-stringed traditional Chinese lute.
Concertgoers will also be able to listen to four classics by Lu Liang-hui, namely “Spring”, “Summer”, “Autumn” and “Winter”.
Tickets are priced between 120 patacas and 250 patacas. More ticketing details can be found on www.macauticket.com.
