Six young locals have separately fallen victim to a job scam, in which they saw, last and this month, online social media recruitment ads claiming “how easy it is to earn money from home with daily payments by only giving ‘likes’ to postings”, and they all followed the instructions to enter their personal data on an online e-payment platform to receive their earnings, resulting in losses ranging between 362 and 130,000 patacas, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said at a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Chong, the six victims reported their cases to the Judiciary Police separately on Monday and early yesterday, among whom a female victim told the police that she was cheated out of 130,000 patacas after she had asked for more “like” missions from the “platform”, as she had been told by the scammers to transfer a “deposit” of 130,000 patacas to a designated bank account in advance.

All the victims lost contact with the “platform” after they had entered their bank account details into the platform, totalling losses of over 178,000 patacas.
