The Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said late last night that there was a “low or medium” probability that the Signal No. 3 will be hoisted this morning.
At 11 p.m. yesterday, according to the SMG website, tropical cyclone Prapiroon was about 550 kilometres southwest of Macau and moving northwest at around 20 kilometres per hour towards Hainan Island.
The Standby Signal No. 1, which was issued at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, remained hoisted early today.
The observatory said late last night that Prapiroon was forecast to make landfall in Hainan province this morning. As the circulation of Prapiroon was relatively small and the tropical cyclone was about to make landfall, staying over 400 kilometres away from Macau, the probability of hoisting Signal No. 3 this morning was low or medium, unless Prapiroon was to move in a more easterly direction, the SMG website said late last night.
The bureau also said that under the influence of Prapiroon’s outer rainband, frequent showers with thunderstorms were forecast to occur in Macau today.
