The Hold On To Hope (H2H) Gallery in Ka Ho Village in Coloane is hosting an exhibition that showcases stained glass artworks until Sunday.
Titled “Blooming in Glass”, the works presented at the free-admission exhibition are by local artists Tochoi (杜翠) and Puilam Choi. It is organised by the Questionmark Workshop, Association of Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers of Macau (ARTM) and Hold on to Hope Project, according to the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) website.
The works on display were created through the Tiffany technique, aka the copper foil method*. In a recent statement sent to the Post by the gallery, the organisers noted that works made with this method create a “dreamy and charming” visual effect and showcase the craftsmanship behind the technique.
Those visiting the exhibition will be able to admire works that integrate the nature themes into glass, with art works being shaped like butterflies, flowers and leaves, among others. “These glass works not only reflect the artists’ deep understanding of nature, but also present the essence of decorative art at the end of the 19th century. They are artistic and practical”, the statement noted.
The gallery is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends. It is closed on Wednesday and Thursday. For more details, one can visit the Hold On To Hope Instagram and Facebook pages.
* The copper-foil technique was introduced as a way to better construct 3-dimensional works, such as lampshades, and to accommodate tiny pieces of glass. For this technique, artisans wrap the edges of glass pieces with a thin copper foil about 0.002 inch in thickness before they are laid out and soldered together”. -Source: The Gelman Stained Glass Museum
