Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan said yesterday that the government’s staff recruitment process is carried out fairly and openly, promising that the government will constantly review its recruitment system to see if any improvements can be made.
Chan made the remarks when replying to oral interpellations by grassroots lawmaker Antonio Ng Kuok Cheong and lawmaker-cum-unionist Jose Pereira Coutinho during a plenary session of the legislature.
Ng and Coutinho questioned the government on what measures it planned to take to ensure that its staff recruitment process is carried out fairly, in the wake of the alleged nepotism by Chan and her predecessor Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan.
The two Chans are not related. While Florinda Chan has declined to comment on the allegations, Sonia Chan has steadfastly denied them.
