Kiang Wu Hospital Director Ma Hok Cheung said yesterday that the private hospital’s healthcare workers had raised concerns about whether the trainee doctor or his or her trainer will be liable for medical malpractice.

The legislature passed a medical malpractice bill submitted by the government on August 12 last year. The law will take effect on February 26.

Speaking to reporters at the hospital on the sidelines of a co-operation agreement signing ceremony with Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, Ma said Health Bureau (SSM) Director Lei Chin Ion and officials of the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) had discussed the law with his hospital’s healthcare workers in a meeting recently.
