Body found floating near Gate of Understanding, woman jumps to death from her home

The Judiciary Police (PJ) were informed by the Macau Customs Service (SA) at 9:08 a.m. yesterday that a male corpse was found floating in the sea near the Gate of Understanding monument in Sai Van, according to a PJ statement.

The statement said that the deceased is a male, aged between 20 and 30.

According to the statement, customs officers brought the corpse ashore near the Maritime Inspection Building in Ilha Verde.

According to the statement, fishermen  notified customs officers that a male was floating in the sea near the Gate of Understanding at 8:20 a.m. yesterday, and customs officers found the deceased lying prone on the surface of the sea. The statement said that the male had been dead for a period of time.

The statement noted that after a preliminary inspection, no suspicious or criminally induced injuries were found on the corpse.

No identification documents were found on the body.

The cause of death still needs to be confirmed by forensic examination, the statement noted.

The case was listed as a dead body found and has been transferred to the PJ Investigation Section for follow-up, according to the statement.


Middle-aged woman falls from height

A non-local middle-aged female died after “falling from a height” on Friday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement at that day, noting that no criminally induced injuries were found on the victim.

The Judiciary Police were notified by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) of the death at 11:44 a.m. on Friday.

According to the statement, a friend of the woman went to visit her in her flat on Avenida de Venceslau de Morais on Friday morning, and found that the door of the flat where her friend lived was open.

The friend then discovered the victim lying on the platform of the building, the statement said.

Upon examination of the body, the injuries the victims suffered were consistent with a fall from a height, the statement said, adding that the exact cause of death had yet to be determined until a forensic examination is carried out.

No suicide notes were found at the flat. The cause of death still needed to be confirmed by forensic examination, the statement said.

The case has initially been classified as a dead body found, the statement noted.
