Wrapping up the joint operation during a press conference on Friday at the SPU headquarters at China Plaza, Assistant to Commissioner-General of the Unitary Police Service Luis Leong Man Chio said that with the concerted efforts of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau police forces, “we have been able to effectively combat cross-border crimes as well as deter and curb various kinds of local unlawful acts, thus achieving the desired results”, adding that the Judiciary Police (PJ), Public Security Police (PSP) and the Macau Customs Service (SA) conducted more than 92,000 investigations during the trilateral operation, involving 13 organised crime cases, with 87 suspects arrested for illegal gambling operations, extortion, drugs, prostitution-related crimes, and online fraud.

Leong underlined that the SPU will continue to strengthen the police cooperation mechanism in the three regions, particularly in terms of exchanging information and cooperating in the investigation of suspected crime cases, making joint efforts to safeguard the security and stability of the three regions, noting that in a joint anti-crime operation conducted by the Guangdong and Macau police forces, local police officers arrested and transferred 57 mainlanders suspected of engaging in illegal currency exchange activities to the mainland police, involving about HK$1.92 million in cash and more than HK$700,000 in casino chips.

In the joint operation, according to Leong, the Judiciary Police, Public Security Police and Macau Custom Service officers detected 568 criminal cases, in which a total of 779 suspects were transferred to the judicial authorities for further investigations, among whom 34 have been remanded in custody.
