The government insists that this month’s “steep” increase in vehicle-related fees is necessary, lawmaker-cum-unionist Jose Pereira Coutinho said yesterday after meeting Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario at the Secretariat for Transport and Public Works yesterday afternoon.

Coutinho had asked for the meeting to discuss the increase in vehicle-related fees which was promulgated by Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On on New Year’s Eve and took effect the next day.

The meeting was attended by Rosario, Coutinho, Workers’ Self-Help Union Chairman Lei Kit Meng and Macau Power of Gaming Association Chairman Stephen Lau Ka Weng.
