The 32nd Macao International Fireworks Display Contest is scheduled to start this weekend, kicking off with shows by pyrotechnics companies from Canada and Thailand on Saturday, followed by Russia and France on Sunday, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday.
The firework shows by Russia and France were originally slated to take place last Saturday, but were postponed due to the adverse weather conditions at that time in the wake of the passing of Super Typhoon Yagi.
This weekend’s shows will be held at 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m., with each show lasting around 18 minutes, according to the statement.
The statement added that members of the public can watch the shows from vantage points equipped with sound systems at Anim’Arte NAM VAN, between the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre and the Kun Iam Statue Waterfront Leisure Area on Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen, Avenida de Sagres (next to Mandarin Oriental Hotel), the waterfront at the Macau Science Centre in Nape, and Avenida do Oceano da Taipa.
A Fireworks Carnival will also be held next to the waterfront of the Macau Science Centre from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on both nights.
The statement added that as Macau is in its typhoon season, MGTO will monitor weather forecasts provided by the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), with any adjustments made to be announced in due course.
